Black Horse joined Bayonet on the Fort Ord bluffs in 1964 and was reworked alongside it by Gene Bates in 2008. It plays more open than its sibling—fescue-framed fairways, distinctively serrated bunkers, and sweeping views of Monterey Bay, with the par-3 15th aimed straight at the water.

The two courses together bill themselves as the best 36 holes on Monterey Bay, and both are fully public.
