Bill Coore built Châteaux in 1987 with a deliberate nod to Tom Simpson's 1920s British heathland courses—sandy soil, heather-lined bunkers, fast-and-firm turf that plays more like Sunningdale or Swinley Forest than anything else in Bordeaux.
The strategy starts immediately: the first hole alone offers a riskier line right of the bunkers for an easier approach, or a safer route left that leaves a harder second shot. That same decision—reward against safety—repeats across all eighteen holes, at a par 72 that stretches past 6,400 yards from the tips.
Green fees €75–160 by season; twilight and under-25 rates cut it further. Open year-round.
