Sand Valley

The Sand Valley golf course is fun and playable, but can be set up to provide a serious challenge. Golf as it was meant to be is at the heart of Sand Valley.

The course that started it all—Coore & Crenshaw spent three years routing Sand Valley through the region's prehistoric dune field before opening it in 2017, and it still plays like discovered ground rather than built ground. Massive, exposed dunes frame every hole; the fairways are firm, fast, and wide enough to offer a real choice on almost every tee shot.

It's built to flex—set the tees up short for a fun, sub-4-hour round with the group, or stretch it to its full 6,938 yards and let the wind and firm turf turn it into a serious test. Either way, play the ground game: low, running shots reward you here more than height ever will.

Signature stretch
The bunker field
Glacial leftovers

Coore & Crenshaw peeled a pine plantation off ancient glacial dunes and let the sand do the talking—bunkers spill into natural blowouts and fairways ride the leftover ridges. At golden hour the whole valley goes copper.

Caddie notes
01Trust the ground—the fairways are firm and fast enough that a low runner often beats a high approach, especially into the wind.
02Take the wide options seriously: there's usually a safer angle in play, but it costs you a harder approach. Decide before you swing, not after.
03The dunes aren't just scenery—they gather stray shots. Favor the fat part of the fairway over the hero line.
04Walk it if you can. The property rewards a slower pace, and the routing was built for a caddie and a bag, not a cart path.
