Sandbox is Coore & Crenshaw's 17-hole short course, tucked into the same restored sand prairie and V-shaped ridge that frames Mammoth Dunes. Holes range from just 40 to 140 yards, but don't mistake short for simple—several of the greens are direct tributes to golf's most famous template holes.
It's built for fun first: bring the putter-only crowd, play it barefoot in the evening, keep score or don't. But look closer and you'll find a Redan, a Biarritz, an Alps, and a Lion's Mouth green worked into the routing—the same template greens that show up at the Old Course, Prestwick, and North Berwick.
Hole 16 · The RedanSandbox's 16th is a genuine Redan green—modeled on North Berwick's 15th, one of the most copied greens in golf. Like the original, it wants a running shot in from the front right, not a shot flown straight at the flag. It's one of five template greens worked into the short course, alongside a Biarritz, an Alps, a Road hole, and a Lion's Mouth.
