Sedge Valley

The majestic Sedge Valley golf course brings back a more intimate scale and classically styled holes. Golf as it was meant to be is at the heart of Sand Valley.

Sedge Valley is Tom Doak's take on English heathland golf—a shorter, more intimate routing than its neighbors at just 5,829 yards, built around the property's best natural green sites rather than around a card full of long par-4s.

Play it as a walk, not a grind. The scale is deliberately human here—narrower corridors, a quieter, more contemplative round than Mammoth Dunes or The Lido—and it rewards patience and shot-shaping over raw length.

Less course, more golf

Doak built Sedge Valley as an argument: a par-68, sub-6,000-yard heathland round where angles beat airtime. You hit every club, wonder where the slog went, and putt out with the prairie skyline for a gallery.

Caddie notes
01This isn't a course to overpower—it's built at a human scale, so club selection and shot shape matter more than how far you can hit it.
02The greens sit on the property's best natural sites, which usually means subtle slopes that don't show up until you're standing over the putt.
03Play it in the evening if you can—the quieter, more intimate heathland feel comes alive in low light.
04Walk this one. It's the shortest of Sand Valley's championship courses, and the routing was built for pace, not carts.
