Gamble Sands opened in 2014 as David McLay Kidd's wide, sandy answer to a resort course—forgiving off the tee, all the trouble around the greens—and quickly became one of the most-loved public courses in the Northwest. Scarecrow, his tighter follow-up, and the 14-hole short course Quicksands rounded the property out.
It's set high above the Columbia River in North Central Washington, orchard country as much as golf country, with the longest playable season of any of these destinations.
